In this GeneratePress WordPress Theme review, discover the many valuable features of this fast, light and free Theme. Also, find out why we use it here at TheWhateverFund.com, and why I think you should too!
We took a long time picking which Theme we wanted to use for TheWhateverFund.com. Having gone through many different Themes, we were beginning to wonder if any would fit our requirements at a reasonable price when we chanced upon GeneratePress.
We installed it, fired it up, and ran it through some tests, and couldn’t believe that we’d finally found what we wanted, and didn’t need to pay for it!
Even though the main features of the Theme are the loading speeds and friendly back end interface, those don’t even begin to scratch the surface.
Let’s take a quick look at it:
- Mobile ready
- Incredible load times
- Friendly user interface (both front & back end)
- Font Awesome integrated
- Quick and responsive support
- Innovative modular add-ons ($10 each)
- Highly flexible appearance
- Great value Premium option ($39.95)
- Essentially none
The first thing that you notice when you pop into GeneratePress.com, is the heavy emphasis on being light, fast, and easy to use.
Those are arguably the most important and sought after features of anyone looking to create a website.
Loading speed is one of the most important factors in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). That’s because search engines aim to direct users to the most user-friendly websites, which will give them the best browsing experience.
The days of 56k internet dialup connections are over. Many current web users are spoilt with near instant loading speeds. If your website takes longer than a few seconds to load, you’ll find that people won’t stay to read your content just because they don’t want to wait for it.
The cleaner and more lightweight the coding on your WordPress site is, the faster it loads, and the more user-friendly it’s deemed to be by the likes of Google.
And GeneratePress is blazing fast.
I’ve experimented with many other WordPress Themes, but none come close to it in terms of loading speed. It’s simply outstanding.
Ease of Use
The GeneratePress back end interface is incredibly easy to use. Everything is clearly and intuitively laid out, and all you need is labelled clearly under the Appearance tab.
We’re not particularly techy people here at TheWhateverFund.com, but we found it easy to access all the Theme features just by poking around the back end, and that’s saying something.
So if you don’t want to spend a great amount of time making your site look exactly how you envision it to be, GeneratePress is your best bet as far as I’m concerned.
Tom Usborne, the creator of GeneratePress, is someone who has years of experience developing hundreds of custom WordPress Themes for clients.
He loves his work, and not only is he helpful, he’s extremely efficient too.
The Knowledgebase at GeneratePress.com is full of short, helpful videos painstakingly compiled by the young man.
If you need more specialized help, Tom replies astonishingly quickly on the site’s Support forums. He’s always friendly in his replies, and gives very detailed help indeed. That really gives you a sense of security because you know you’ll never be left alone flailing in the dark if you need help with your GeneratePress Theme.
There are 2 ways you can do this.
The first way is to buy individual add-ons to the Theme at $7 – $10 each. This isn’t something you’ll see very often with Themes – they’re far more common with plugins. However, it’s actually brilliant and gives you great flexibility in choosing what options you need. There are 13 of these and you can find out what they are on their add-ons page.
The second way is to get GP Premium, which gives you all 13 add-ons for a grand total of $39.95 (instead of $117). Do the math and you’ll know that if you need more than 4 add-ons, getting Premium makes better financial sense, especially when you consider that you have:
- Unlimited domain installations
- Unlimited updates
- Unlimited support
If you’ve searched for premium WordPress Themes, you’ll know that they cost anywhere from $60 to $200. Paying a one-time $39.95 fee for an unlimited license, with free updates included for any future add-ons, represents RIDICULOUS value for money.
I’m pretty sure you won’t find a better deal for a premium Theme than GP Premium.
There is virtually nothing bad about GeneratePress.
If I were to nit-pick, I could say that highly specialized options like having categorized columns (a feature I’d like to include in some other websites) aren’t included in the Theme. Is it reasonable to expect such options at this price point? One could argue it’s not, but there’s always room for improvement.
However, in Tom’s defence, if you ask for support on the forums, he’ll come to your aid, and will give you very detailed instructions on how to create those modifications through some simple PHP scripting. He’ll do it very quickly too.
We can’t say enough good things about GeneratePress. Tom has created an absolute monster of a Theme, and for far less than what other premium Themes cost. We simply can’t recommend it enough, and as far as we’re concerned, there’s no way we’re going to pay for another Theme as long as we can keep using Tom’s.
